The University of Missouri-Columbia solar car heads down Route 66 near Vega, Texas on its way to Tucumcari, N.M. during the American Solar Challenge Thursday. On the fifth day of the rayce, 20 teams are spread across three states - Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico.

The University of Arizona solar car, "Turbulence" heads down Central Avenue, the original Route 66, in Albuquerque toward the checkpoint at the University of New Mexico

The Auburn University solar car, "Sol of Auburn" heads down Historic Route 66 near the town of Moriarty, N.M.  as it makes it way to the checkpoint in Albuquerque.

The solar car from Principia College (Elsah, Ill.) winds down Historic Route 66 toward the checkpoint in Gallup, N.M. during the eighth day of the American Solar Challenge.
