ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., July 18, 2003 - Finally some of us have a day off. We are here in Albuquerque on the campus of the New Mexico University. Seven teams were here as of this morning. This afternoon I saw Kansas State University, the University of Toronto and Iowa State University here too.
The rest of the teams will be coming in on Saturday. This staging area will be busy. Besides more teams being here, Sandia National Laboratory has organized renewable energy booths to display wind as well as solar technologies. The local news and the newspapers have carried articles about the race and informed people the cars will be on display, so we expect a good crowd. The New Mexico Solar Energy Society has been cooking cookies for all the teams all day in a solar cooker. For the kids, there are numerous model solar powered cars for them to drive around the parking lot by remote control. Everyone is relaxing and having fun.
