The largest student-run project at the University of Toronto, Blue Sky Solar Racing continues to attract some 100 student volunteers from a wide variety of disciplines. Members are committed to applying classroom knowledge, and demonstrating that students of University of Toronto rank among the best in the world. In designing, constructing, and racing state-of-the-art solar powered vehicles across two continents, Blue Sky helps to test efficient, alternative energy vehicles, promote alternative energy sources, and pave the way for the vehicles of tomorrow. Blue Sky's comprehensive outreach program remains an important and growing pillar of strength and leadership. Blue Sky actively brings to light positive approaches to environmental responsibility and changing societal conditions to students of all ages and the public at large. In 1997, Blue Sky placed 3rd in the Florida Sunday Challenge, and in SunRayce '99, Blue Sky's Blue II placed 20th in a field of 51, achieving 'Top Rookie' Honours. At the 2001 American Solar Challenge, Blue Sky's third generation vehicle, Faust, captured 12th place standing, and in Blue Sky's debut at the World Solar Challenge in the same year, Faust achieved 14th standing globally.
