NASC2005 Trial Drive Updates

The Trial Run for the 2005 North American Solar Challenge began in Austin at the Texas state capitol building at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2004. The University of Minnesota Solar Vehicle Project and ASC staff are inspecting the 2500 mile route for the rayce in 2005. Updates will be posted below as they are received at HQ.


  • 2004.07.25, 2:30 p.m. - ASC Staff report that U. Minnesota is approaching Calgary, AB.


  • 2004.07.24, 8:30 p.m. - ASC Staff report that U. Minnesota is in Medicine Hat, AB.


  • 2004.07.23, 12 p.m. - U. Minnesota is approximately 35 miles (56.3 km) west of Winnipeg, MB.


  • 2004.07.22, 5:15 p.m. - U. Minnesota had a smooth border crossing as they entered Canada.


  • 2004.07.22, 10:15 a.m. - ASC Staff report that U. Minnesota is in Fargo, ND.


  • 2004.07.21, Evening - ASC Staff report that U. Minnesota encountered stormy weather south of Breckenridge, MN.


  • 2004.07.21, 2:30 p.m. - ASC Staff report that U. Minnesota is in Pipestone, MN.


  • 2004.07.21, 10:50 a.m. - U. Minnesota is in Nebraska (north of Omaha) traveling close to 45 mph under patchy clouds.


  • 2004.07.20, 7 p.m. - U. Minnesota is in Omaha for the evening.


  • 2004.07.20, 1:20 p.m. - U. Minnesota is preparing to depart from Topeka, KS. They will be heading towards Omaha, NE under sunny skies.


  • 2004.07.20, 12 p.m. - ASC staff report that U. Minnesota has arrived in Topeka, KS.


  • 2004.07.20, 10:45 a.m. - U. Minnesota is traveling under sunny skies near Burlington, KS.


  • 2004.07.19, 5:45 p.m. - ASC staff report that U. Minnesota has reached Tulsa and will be heading toward Independence, KS.


  • 2004.07.19, 3:30 p.m. - U. Minnesota is traveling through Okmulgee, Oklahoma on their way to the Tulsa/Broken Arrow area.


  • 2004.07.19, 11:15 a.m. - U. Minnesota is traveling under sunny skies near Atoka, Oklahoma.


  • 2004.07.18, 12 p.m. - ASC staff report that U. Minnesota began the first leg of the drive after a brief delay at the start line. Partially cloudy skies.
