Official Interpretation

4/12/2004 Regulation 6.5.8
Question:
Please provide further clarification on the egress scrutineering and what specifically will be required of the drivers. Must the actual array be in place on the vehicle, or can teams place protective materials (mock upper surface - without solar cells) over the array? Must drivers fully exit the vehicle?
Official Response:
The driver (and passenger if applicable) must fully egress to standing outside the car in 10 seconds per 6.5.8. The car must be in the same configuration as used for racing. No alternate arrays will be allowed. Team provided coverings will not be allowed. Also per 4.1.3 any or all drivers and passengers may be asked to demonstrate egress. Egress is the safety mechanism of last resort for the occupants; they must demonstrate they are comfortable using it in case the need arises.
NOTE: There is a later Official Response that replaces this response. See: 7/11/2004 - Regulation 6.5.8.
