Official Interpretation

6/6/2004 Regulation 5.8.3
Question:
Does the weight limitation for the battery pack include packaging, that is, mounting plates, protection circuitry, or the physical box itself?
Official Response:
The weight of the smallest element of energy provided by the manufacturer will be the basis for the Battery Pack Weight as required in the ASC Regulations. This element must be within the spec provided by the manufacturer and a sample must be provided at scrutineering. We may also request you reasonably demonstrate the buildup of the total weight of the pack which matches your actual pack to confirm the weight of the smallest element. (ie Pack weighs 27Kg, you would show there is at least 2kg of connection material, so the total cell weight must be under 25kg)
