Official Interpretation

6/9/2005 Regulation 5.14
Question:
if we only use one set of lighting elements for the rear turn signals/brake lights, what is the required priority? at scrutineering, we were told that if the left turn signal was on, and we hit the brakes, both lights should go solid red. is this correct? by having the brakes override the turn signal, you lose information. keep in mind that the right light is still solid red for the braking.
Official Response:
It is acceptable to use single lights for both brakes and turn signals. The turn signal must take priority over the brake light when both are activated, while still showing the brake light on the side not indicating a turn.
