We are considering using Lithium Ion batteries as a Supplemental Battery per 5.8.5. Do the same regulations apply for protection on a supplemental battery as that apply for the battery pack? Or are we required to have any protection at all for our supplemental batteries?

|
Auxiliary Lithium Packs require fusing as documented in the regulations. Additionally, for safety, the voltage of a lithium auxiliary pack requires monitoring as well. They must be charged outside the car with a charger that has overvoltage protection.
