All teams that wish to enter a solar car in the American Solar Challenge (ASC) or Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) must ensure that car complies with all event regulations. Before any solar car is allowed to race in either competition, it must first pass a series of rigorous technical inspections called Scrutineering.
During Scrutineering, race officials carefully examine each solar car to ensure that it satisfies the regulations and matches the information provided in the vehicle design report. Teams should be prepared to work with officials throughout the process to answer questions and implement any necessary changes their vehicle. If you have questions about interpreting the regulations while designing or building the solar car, we encourage you to work proactively with race officials to get the clarification you need. Send all regulation inquiries to ascregs@americansolarchallenge.org.
Some mechanical and electrical design reference documents relevant to solar cars has been made available to teams here.
